Any resident will tell you that there's never a dull moment in Laguna Beach. There's simply no shortage of things to see and do in this charming city, from the usual shopping and dining to adventure sports and hikes. And let's not forget the beaches-after all, it's what draws thousands of buyers to check out Laguna Beach homes every year. No matter what you're into, you're sure to find something to like in one of OC's most famous cities.
If you're new to Laguna Beach, trying out local activities is a great way to know the area. Read on for a list of the best things to see and do in your new neighborhood.
Surfing and Water Sports
Most Laguna Beach homes are close to at least one surf spot, so it's no surprise that many residents are into water sports. Besides surfing, there's also a good skin diving, skimboarding and scuba diving community, as well as several fishing clubs. Since the weather's good throughout the year, you can just grab your gear and head out to the beach anytime. Crescent Bay, Main Beach, and Diver's Cove are some of the best spots.
Swimming and Sunbathing
If you're not the adventurous type, you always have the option of staying by the shore-it's just as fun and you get to enjoy more of the views. The pristine white sands of Laguna Beach are great for relaxing and basking in the sun, and the magnificent views offer a nice extra perk. Victoria Beach is fairly secluded and is great for winding down.
Shopping and Dining
When you're tired of the beach, there's a world of alternatives further inland that are just as entertaining. Shopping in downtown Laguna is a quintessential Southern California experience, with upscale boutiques, elegant shops, and a range of local and international brands on offer. Most of the main streets are also dotted with smaller shops, selling everything from local arts and crafts to designer items. Food is also one of the city's strong suits-many people flock to the seaside restaurants every year for some good al fresco dining.
Art Viewing
You've probably heard of the thriving artistic community at Laguna Beach, as well as its many art museums and galleries. There are public exhibits all year round, often at easily accessible places such as Main Beach and Heisler Park. If you're lucky, you'll even come in time for an open studio, where artists give free tours of their studios and show off their original art.
Picnics and Barbecues
Most Laguna Beach properties are within walking distance of at least one park. There are a total of 20 parks in Laguna Beach, most of them offering such amenities as picnic areas, barbecue facilities, viewing points, and play areas for children. It's part of what makes the city one of the most family-friendly in OC. Heisler Park, Main Beach Park, and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park are some of the most popular.
Hiking and Cycling
There are a number of good hiking trails in Laguna Beach, most of them offering great hillside views. El Morro Canyon is great for beginners and experts alike, and Heisler Park offers some easy routes for casual hikers. Laguna Wilderness Park and Laguna Canyon have some of the most challenging mountain bike tracks in Orange County, and many experts recommend the stretch between Top of the World and Arch Beach Heights.
